Nearly 5.9 million vehicles have been launched to date in India by Tata, from1954, when it divided its operation to include vehicle manufacture.
The first model to hit the Indian roads is the heavy truck in a deal with Daimler-Benz AG, rolled out from the Pune facility based on a German Daimler Truck.
Then it launched its Tata 407, the initial LCV (Light Commercial Vehicle) model. It was manufactured in 1986.
The vehicle manufacturer established its plants all over the country including the Jamshedpur facility in Jharkand, the Pune factory in Maharashtra, Lucknow plant in Uttar Pradesh, Pantnagar facility in Uttarakhand, Sanand plant in Gujarat and at the facility at Dharward, in Karnataka.
The company following its agreement with Fiat Group Automobiles, in 2005 manufactures both Tata and Fiat vehicles as well as FIAT power trains, at the facility in Ranjangaon, in Maharashtra.
The automotive company has over 3500 units of dealers; sales, services and spare components networks. It also assumed the promotion and supply of cars under the Fiat Brand in India.
Listed in the New York Stock Exchange in September 2004, Tata Motors makes name as a global automotive company, thus launching operations in South Korea, Thailand, the UK and Spain.
Jaguar Land Rover, business was taken over by the company in 2008. It went on to obtain the second biggest truck manufacturer in South Korea, the Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company in 2004.
Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles Company has also rolled out its vehicles in Korea. Nearly 2/3 rd the export of Heavy Commercial Vehicles from Korea is accounted for by this joint venture.
Another share that Tata Motors bags is the 21% in a well- known Spanish bus and coach manufacturer, Hispano Carrocera in 2005. The company goes on to acquire the rest of the shares in 2009.
Tata also forms deal with the worldwide leader for building the body of buses and coaches, Marco Polo, based in Brazil. Tata Motors in a deal with Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant Company of Thailand will produce and market its pickup trucks in Thailand.
At the same time, the latest Thailand facility of Tata Motors started generating Xenon pickup trucks, with it having its Thailand launch in 2008.
Tata Motors marked its presence, globally since 1961. The commercial and passenger vehicles by this manufacturer are being promoted in countries such as Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South Asia, South East Asia and South America. The company has opened joint venture assembly operations in Kenya, Bangladesh, Ukraine, Russia, Senegal and South Africa.
Some of the models being rolled out by this auto company are Indica, Tata Ace, compact Nano car, its standard truck model, Tata Prima and so on.
Tata Motors reports total revenue of nearly Rs. 319, 534 crore for the year 2009 to 2010, accounting for nearly 57% business from abroad. The company contains about 395,000 employees, all over the world.
