MARUTI ERTIGA

Maruti Ertiga Review

Overall

Maruti Ertiga Pictures

With the launch of Maruti Ertiga, earlier codenamed as Maruti R3, Maruti Suzuki India has taken into its ambit almost all car segments. Following the robust branding and low maintenance nature of Maruti cars, Maruti Ertiga has hit bang on the MPV market of India. Seven seater Maruti Ertiga is tagged as the great Indian family car. This can be also attributed to the effective price tag associated with Ertiga MPV. The new MPV received its name from Indonesian language in which Ertiga means Three Rows. Albeit the looks and features scream that it is a Multi Purpose Vehicle, Ertiga is positioned in the sub-segment of Utility vehicles and this new segment is called as LUV-Life Utility Vehicle by Maruti. With this, Maruti officials claim they have created an entirely new segment in the Indian auto industry.

Ertiga’s launch has also announced Maruti’s entry into the utility segment of cars where the company is currently not a major player. Maruti in India has a bee-line of cars including some of the best selling ones in almost every segment. It has Maruti Gypsy and Maruti Grand Vitara in the SUV segment; however these have meager sales as compared to SUVs of other brands. Besides, there are vans including Maruti Omni and Maruti Eeco that provide good option and are value for money cars but still used mainly be fleet owners. Ertiga is the first utility vehicle which is targeted as a premium product and is equipped with such features which attract urban audience.

Maruti Ertiga was first unveiled at the Auto Expo held in New Delhi in 2010 as Maruti R3 concept. However, the global premier of Maruti Ertiga was done in 2012 Auto Expo. Finally, on April 12th, 2012, Ertiga made its global debut in Delhi. Ertiga is the first Maruti car that is specially made for Indian market and will then be trimmed for other global markets. Rest, all the cars were first launched in other countries and where tailor made for India afterwards. The compact LUV has been developed in collaboration with parent Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC)'s research and design wing in Japan and is produced in India itself. The Ertiga is manufactured at company's facility in Gurgaon in India. Maruti Suzuki has vested nearly Rs 430 crore (Rs 4.3 billion) in developing Ertiga. The designers have carefully built in `features and attributes’ of a sedan in a compact MPV Maruti Ertiga which is essentially built on theme of togetherness.

The almost fully grown seven-seater MPV or rather, LUV, is available in both petrol and diesel variants and three different trims. Based on Maruti Swift’s platform, Maruti Ertiga petrol is packed with an all new 1.4 litre 1372cc K series (K14B) engine that produces a maximum power of 95 Ps at 6000 rpm and a maximum torque of 130 Nm at 4000 rpm. Being the K-Series engine, the USP of these engines is that they are more fuel efficient. The Certified fuel efficiency (as per CMV Rule 155, India cycle) of Petrol Ertiga is a top of the class 16.02 km per litre. The 1.3 L 1196cc DDiS Super Turbo diesel engine is the other engine guise that powers the LUV. This Fiat sourced engine is similar to that of the Maruti SX4 sedan. The Maruti Ertiga diesel produces 90 Ps at 4000 rpm and 200 Nm at 1750 rpm. The Certified fuel efficiency (CMV Rule 155, India cycle) of Diesel Ertiga is a class leading 20.77 kmpl. Maruti MPV has a five speed manual transmission system and the car is a front wheel drive and sports fine quality interiors, which makes it more appealing.

Ertiga is quite space efficient and will boast of its interior spacing within the mini MPV segment with 4265mm in length and 2740 mm wheelbase. Two airbags will adorn the top end models while ABS will be a part of standard equipment in Ertiga sans base model. Ertiga MPV is available in six variants: LXi, VXi, ZXi, LDi, VDi and ZDi. The middle and top end variants get twin AC, 3 spoke tilt-power steering with mounted controls, power windows with auto down on driver’s side, central locking, audio system (USB Compatible, 4+2 speakers), multi information display, keyless entry, etc are stuffed in Maruti Ertiga. The roof mounted AC vents in the second and the last row passenger seats provides passenger comfort. The new MPV is unquestionably designed to ensnare the Indian families who are specially looking for a perfect merger of everyday space and usability. This car is able to meet all life’s expectations.

Maruti Ertiga Models

Maruti Ertiga Petrol Models

Maruti Ertiga LXI This is the base petrol model of the series. The Ertiga LXI is powered by K series 1.4 litre of petrol engine which belts out 95 Ps of max power and 130 Nm of maximum torque. Since it is the range opener, it is not stuffed with too many features but power steering, body color bumpers, manually folding OVRMs (outside rear view mirrors), multi trip meters, AC with heater, etc. come as standard.
Maruti Ertiga VXI This is the mid range model of the new Maruti MPV also powered by the same K14B petrol engine with VVT. Ertiga VXI comes with features like central locking, electrically folding OVRMs, keyless entry, adjustable headrests, body colored OVRMs, door handles and many more. The mileage offered by all petrol variants is 16.02 kmpl.
Maruti Ertiga ZXI The Maruti Ertiga ZXI is the range topper in petrol models. It is stuffed with a number of premium features which are not offered in the starting and medium range model. These features include Airbags, alloy wheels, outside temperature guage on information display integrated into meter cluster, front seat belt with pretensioners and force limiter for driver and co driver, steering wheels mounted audio controls, etc.
Maruti Ertiga VXI ABS If one chooses to have ABS (Anti Lock Braking system) with EBD and brake assist on his Maruti Ertiga VXI, he should go for this variant as it comes optional on VXi.

Maruti Ertiga Diesel Models

Maruti Ertiga LDI The Ertiga LDI variant is the base diesel variant which is powered by a 1.3 litre DDiS turbo diesel motor producing 90 Ps power @ 4000 rpm and 200Nm torque. This variant carries exactly same features as Maruti Ertiga LXI, except the different engine system.
Maruti Ertiga VDI Ertiga VDI sits in the mid diesel segment MPV and borrows its features from Maruti Ertiga VXI, except the different engine system. VDI houses the same diesel engine as LDI. Maruti claims a mileage of ARAI certified 20.77 kmpl for all diesel variants including VDI. It comes with ABS as standard safety feature in the car.
Maruti Ertiga ZDI The Maruti Ertiga ZDI is the top end diesel variant and carries all the features offered with the ZXI model. The ZDI is the highest priced model among the Ertiga model range.

Maruti Ertiga Mileage

Maruti Ertiga TachoMeter All the variants of this mini MPV abide by the new generation BS-IV emission norms and all the credit goes to Maruti India’s new age exquisite K series engine, which is highly fuel efficient and emits lower carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Maruti Ertiga does not disappoint customers in terms of mileage. The mileage of Maruti Ertiga impresses its consumers in a single drive. The petrol variant of Maruti Ertiga delivers a perfect mileage of 16.02 km per litre. On the other hand, the diesel variant of Maruti Ertiga gives an impressive mileage of 20.77 km per litre, which is pretty good for a MPV. However, we expect that these figures will be possible to achieve only on highways and the city mileage would be comparatively low. The variable valve timing (VVT) technology in the mill of the Ertiga helps to change the timing of the fuel intake for continuous power generation that ensures maximum use of engine power. In other words, the new technology guarantees maximum fuel consumption, engine performance and lesser emissions thereby increasing acceleration.

Power of Maruti Ertiga

Maruti Ertiga PhotosThe petrol variant of Maruti Ertiga comes with K series (K 14) 1.4 litre of petrol engine with a displacement of 1373cc, which keeps the ability to produce maximum power of 95 Ps at 6000 rpm with 130 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. To our surprise, the K 14 petrol engine is the largest version of K-series so far and because of being enormous, it delivers better power and torque. The mini MPV is also be available in the diesel version, which will definitely bring a smile on the face of the Indian consumers. The diesel version of Maruti Ertiga features a 1.3 litre of 1248cc of DDiS super turbo diesel motor. The engine is pretty analogous to Maruti SX4 sedan and churns out 90 Ps of power at 4000 rpm along with 200 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. Variable Valve Timing in engine helps in continuous power generation guaranteeing maximum use of engine power.

Acceleration & Pick-Up

Maruti Ertiga Gear To enhance the pickup and acceleration of Ertiga, the engines are wisely mated with a five speed manual gearbox. Maruti has reduced the gearing compared to Maruti SX4 to work around the lag under 2000 rpm. The Maruti car can accelerate from 0kmph to 100 kmph in 15 seconds for petrol and 15.5 seconds in diesel Ertiga. This gearbox provides the mini MPV an awesome acceleration and it doesn’t take much of a time to touch the top speed of 155 km per hour, which certainly sounds amazing. Maruti Suzuki India has made sure that the driver gets an awesome and relaxed driving experience.

Maruti Ertiga Exteriors

India's largest car maker, which sells every second car in the country, has shown a thumbs up with Ertiga thus challenging the already existing car brands in the segment. The Ertiga is designed in Japan by Suzuki’s design wing. However, it is purely made-for-India car. Ertiga is based on the RIII concept, and is based on Maruti Swift’s platform. Maruti Ertiga exteriors are inspired from Ritz hatchback especially if styling is considered. In the front, the nose of car looks very similar to that of Ritz, with its slot-like grille and bellying bonnet. The radiator grille contains the Suzuki emblem. However, the lower part or chin of Ertiga is quite unlike Ritz being much wide and bulky. The air inlet in between the body color bumper is large complementing a MPV look and so are the enclosures that house the fog lights. The headlights are more or less Swift type with bulged appearance and sweeping sideward.

This is a people’s-mover, and that means a lot of additional space comes aboard, thanks to Ertiga’s elongated wheelbase measuring 2740 mm, raising it by 380mm as compared to the Ritz, and the roof is higher giving good head space. Maruti Ertiga is almost similar in size and dimensions as the Innova or the Xylo, however it is smaller in length. Among the three Xylo has the maximum interior comfort. When viewed from side, the sweeping back ribbed roof catches attention. Body color outside mirrors and body color door handles are missed out from the lower variants of this new car so as to keep the price in check. The quarter glass helps the passengers of last row to view outside. The windows and windscreen are tinted to protect the inmates from sunlight. Alloy wheels with wheel cover heighten the luxury quotient of Ertiga.

Ertiga MPV comes with tinted rear windscreen wrapping itself around the back rendering the MPV a ‘pillar-less’ look from the back. Even a wiper and defogger can be noticed on the rear windscreen. The tiny tail-lamps seem to have been designed with cost rather than visibility in mind. Body color bumpers continue at the rear also. The boot is not very spacious because of three seats in the MPV.

Exterior Measurements

The stretched 2740mm of wheelbase and the additional third row seats have rendered a lengthy appearance to Ertiga. The total length is 4265mm, well over the critical four-metre length. This has resulted in the Ertiga not qualifying for the lower excise duty benefit for small cars. However, the length is shorter in comparison to other MPVs plying on Indian roads. The width and height of this MPV comes out to be 1695mm and 1685mm respectively. What adds more appeal is the 15 inches of alloy wheels, which ensures smooth ride. Moreover, the stylish MPV has a remarkable ground clearance of 185mm and the chassis and body weight of petrol and diesel variants comes up to 1160kg and 1235 kg, respectively.

Maruti Ertiga Interior

Maruti Ertiga interiors can boasts of its seating capacity but not comfort although Maruti designers have put in all their efforts to give a satisfying product. The MPV is designed to lure the big Indian families looking for an ideal blend of everyday usability and space. The flowing line in interior cabin creates feeling of space.

Ertiga is based on Maruti Swift’s platform. Light weight materials contribute majorly in giving the interiors a more luxurious look. The beige interior theme along with a number of styling features proves to be a real plus point for the car. Ertiga MPV that seats seven people has made a good attempt in utilizing the space inside the car. The 60:40 split design in middle row let the passengers to jump to the third row from the left hand side. The middle and last-row occupants get improved cooling from roof-mounted AC vents in these rows. The rear seat also gets armrest with cup holders. The boot space is not too much but foldable rear seats can make the boot large for keeping ample of luggage. The front seats having four-way adjustments, gets supportive seats.

The new Ertiga sports a 5 speed manual gearbox, power windows with electrically adjustable mirror and auto down facility on driver’s side window. The 3 spoke tilt adjustable electric steering wheel works like magic while driving. The steering has audio controls mounted on it (top end model) along with keyless entry and central door locking. Audio system is powerful and comes with 4+2 speakers and USB compatibility. The instrument cluster has two trip meters and multi information display sums up the entire look of the front cabin. Remote for central locking, fuel filler and boot lid are also present in Ertiga. However, the driver seat has electric adjustments and the car is also blessed with a range of storage spaces inside including bottle holders, coin holders, sunglass holders, etc.

Interior Comfort

Ertiga is an audacious and chippy initiative, in which Maruti’s designers have carefully built in `features and attributes’ of a sedan in the form of a compact MPV to evolve a next generation vehicle. Built on the central theme of ‘togetherness’, Ertiga is an interesting mobility solution for young dynamic and confident Indians who want to hold back individuality and yet retain Indian custom of ‘togetherness’. The plush and premium interiors of the car exude trust, elegance, class, versatile character and agility. The interiors offer an array of new features such as a 3-spoke, tilt adjustable electric steering, twin AC, strong audio system  with USB Compatibility and 4+2 speakers, steering mounted audio controls, central door locking and keyless entry, multi information display, power windows with auto down on driver’s side and electrically adjustable ORVMs. The Ertiga offers a three-row flexi-seating arrangement for 7 passengers (2+3+2) that is easier to operate and is high on storage space. Each row of the car has been designed keeping in mind the occupants’ seating requirements; whether for an individual’s day-to-day business commitments or for a family’s weekend shopping, dining or weekend drives. Large rear doors facilitate comfortable exit and entry of middle seat passengers. The armrest for middle seat passengers speaks volume about the comfort of this LUV. The foldable storage area is hidden in the backrest of middle seat which can store small items. The 60:40 split middle row has an option to fold down thus creating more space and practicality in the car. A spare wheel is attached to the chassis of Ertiga which can be used in case of a puncture.

Maruti Ertiga Engine and Performance

Maruti Ertiga Engine
As we have already mentioned, the Maruti Ertiga model is rolled-out in both diesel and petrol variants. Both the variants consist of 4 cylinder in-line arrangement in the engine. The petrol variant of the car is powered by a 1.4 liter power train of Maruti’s latest K Series with VVT. The K14B engine is the largest K series engine so far. With a displacement of 1373 cc, the petrol engine delivers a peak power of 95 Ps along with a peak torque of 130 Nm. The engine boasts of low friction, low NVH and light weight.

On the other hand, the diesel car model comes powered by a 1.3L multijet turbo diesel engine with DDiS (Direct Diesel Injection System) with a displacement of 1248 cc. The Maruti Ertiga diesel engine comes coupled with Variable Geometry Turbo (VGT) for better efficiency. The maximum power and maximum torque figures of the Ertiga diesel are 90 Ps and 20.39kgm, respectively. This is the same engine that Maruti is sourcing from Fiat for its SX4 sedan.

The variable valve timing (VVT) technology in the mill of the Maruti Ertiga assists in changing the timing of fuel intake so that continuous power generation takes place ensuring maximum use of engine power. In other words, the new technology guarantees maximum fuel consumption, engine performance and lesser emissions thereby increasing acceleration.

Both petrol and diesel versions of the car come coupled with a five speed manual transmission as standard. All variants of the car are compatible with the new generation BS-IV emission norms, thanks to the Maruti’s new age K series engine, which is not only better in fuel efficiency, but also emits lower Co2  in the environment, the engines are refined too. Since the passenger cabin is too close to the engine bay, noise levels are bound to be more than normal inside the cabin. To prevent this, Maruti’s engineers have covered the engine bay with sound-deadening material and hydraulic engine mounts (for reducing vibrations).

Wheels

Maruti Ertiga Wheels Wheels are positioned on the extreme ends of the car. To make the drive safer and smooth for the consumers, the top end models of Maruti Ertiga features splendid 15 inches of alloy wheels with tyre of 185/65 size. These alloy wheels give the entire vehicle a sporty look along with 185mm of high ground clearance. The base and mid variants get steel wheels of same tyre size. The mid variants get full wheel covers.

Braking & Handling

Maruti Ertiga DashBoard Maruti Ertiga ensures superb handling and brakes in the car as the firm is known for developing durable and stable vehicles. That is why this mini MPV is safe and secure while driving. Front ventilated disc brakes and rear drum brakes in Ertiga proves to be excellent while applying brakes during emergencies and even generally. Maruti India has designed this car to be aerodynamically efficient, which not only keeps it unwavering on high speeds but also makes it easy for the driver to steer in heavy traffic. The monocoque body construction lends car like comfort and driving manners. It gives car-like handling and bumps on road are hardly felt. The suspension system of Maruti Ertiga has been kept up to the mark as well. The front suspension of this MPV comprise of independent MacPherson struts, while the rear suspension includes non-independent, torsion beam. Genuine turning circle radius and less body roll ensures great stability in Ertiga. The steering is also light weighted and good to handle.

Handling & Safety

Maruti Ertiga Safety Maruti Ertiga doesn’t disappoint the consumers in terms of safety features. The MPV is blessed with a rage of standard and new age safety features, which will be protecting the occupants. These are two airbags, one for driver and the other one for co-passenger, Antilock Braking System (ABS) with EBD and brake assist that allows the car to get the right braking balance between the rear and front axle. There is also engine immobilizer and high tensile roof that adds on to the safety quotient of this multi utility vehicle.

New Volkswagen Beetle

New Volkswagen Beetle

The latest Beetle has grown up, both in appearance and size. It retains many elements of the previous model and continues to look like an iteration of the original design classic. The interiors lose the flower vase now but the upward-opening glovebox does add a hint of vintage Beetle to the new dashboard. There is more space than before too. India should get the 158bhp, 1.4-litre petrol engine and VW could import the Beetle with the 138bhp, 2-litre diesel too.
The Beetle is more a designer accessory than a rival to conventional hatchbacks, so expect heavyweight pricing for this small car when it’s launched in late 2012.

Factfile:
Engines: 1.4-litre turbo-petrol, 2-litre diesel
Power/Torque: 158bhp/24.5kgm,
138bhp/32.6kgm

Tata Safari Storme

Tata Safari Storme
It may be long in the tooth now but Tata Motors hasn’t given up on the Safari just yet. To be called the Safari Storme when launched in mid-2012, the SUV gets revised styling as part of the comprehensive update. The L-shaped headlights are new, the front grille is different and the side cladding more pronounced. Even the tail gets a makeover with restyled lights and the spare wheel now repositioned under the body. Unfortunately, the styling tweaks do not pass off as anything more than a facelift and that’s disappointing on a design that’s over a decade old. That said, massive interior space is a given on the Storme and the cabin also benefits with a serious quality upgrade.

Powering the Storme is Tata’s familiar140bhp 2.2-litre turbodiesel Dicor engine but it’s the adoption of Tata’s modern X2 platform on the Safari that has changed the way it drives. Apart form improving driving dynamics, the new chassis also makes the Safari cabin a lot quieter than before. So the Safari Storme is more than just old wine in a new bottle. If Tata prices it in the Rs 9-10 lakh range, the Safari Storme could still win itself a sizeable fan following.

Skoda Fabia Scout

Skoda Fabia Scout
A rugged, go-anywhere hatchback sounds ideal for India and that’s exactly what the Fabia Scout is. The Scout is in essence a Fabia that uses taller springs to give it more ground clearance. There is no 4x4 system, so off-road ability will be limited to rutted paths at best. The Indian car we have spied testing at Aurangabad will feature gravel and scratch-resistant cladding on the lower portion of the doors, wheel arches and rear bumper. A scruff plate at the rear will also differentiate the Scout from the standard Fabia, though frontal styling will remain identical.
Engines will be shared with the Fabia. The Scout will be a niche product but if priced well could win itself a sizeable fan following.

New Porsche 911

New Porsche 911

It may not look radically different from its predecessor but this is the all-new sixth-generation 911.  The car will go on sale in India soon after right-hand-drive sales commence globally. It will initially be sold in rear-wheel-drive Carrera (3.4 litre) and Carrera S (3.8 litre) coupé guises. Cabriolet and four-wheel-drive variants will follow in 2012, and pave the way for a range-topping 523bhp Turbo in 2013. The new 911 will sport a new seven-speed manual gearbox — a first for a series production road car. Apart from increased power and improved emissions, the new 911’s chassis has also been worked on for improved ride and even better dynamics.

Renault Scala

Renault Scala

Renault’s new midsize car, Scala will be to the Nissan Sunny what the Pulse is to the Micra. The cars will share the same platform, engines and, in all likelihood, the same interiors. However, exterior styling will be quite different. Engine options will include a 105bhp, 1.5-litre petrol and an 86bhp, 1.5-litre diesel. Renault will price the car aggressively, so expect this exciting new saloon to cost between Rs 7-9 lakh when it is launched in September 2012.

Engines: 1.5-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel
Power/Torque: 97bhp/13.6kgm,

Renault Duster

Renault Duster

Renault wants a presence in each segment of the car market and will be ready with its Duster mini-SUV by July next year. The Duster shares its platform with the Logan (now Mahindra Verito), so should be able to take a fair bit of abuse. But this is no off-roader in the true sense and will be sold in India in a two-wheel-drive avatar only. Interior space is impressive and, just like on the Logan, ride quality is nice and supple too. The Duster will have  1.6 petrol (105bhp) and 1.5 diesel (90bhp) engines. A more powerful 107bhp 1.5 diesel with reduced turbo lag will also be on offer. Expect prices to start at Rs 7 lakh for the base petrol-engined Duster.

Nissan Evalia (NV200)

Nissan Evalia (NV200)

With the Evalia, Nissan wants to take the Toyota Innova head-on. Styling is more commercial van than MPV and this appearance is not helped by the Evalia’s sliding rear doors. Like the Innova, the Evalia seats passengers in a 2+3+3 layout but where it should hold a crucial advantage is in terms of space; its monocoque body in theory more space efficient than the Innova’s ladder frame construction. Power is courtesy the 105bhp 1.5-litre diesel motor that does duty on the Nissan Sunny but it remains to be seen if the engine will be powerful enough to propel the Evalia with a full load. Pricing is likely to be in the range of Rs 7.5-12 lakh.

Mercedes Benz M-Class 2012,Mercedes Benz M-Class latest model

Mercedes Benz M-Class
To join Mercedes’ line-up will be the smart new M-class SUV. The lines are softer, the eye-like headlights with their LED detailing are pleasing, and the whole look is less brutish than before. A stylised cabin with Merc-typical luxury bits make the interiors a comfortable place to be in. The dash design in particular is a huge improvement over the staid styling of the old car’s. Ride quality should be a huge improvement and Merc’s Airmatic air suspension could be offered as an option to discerning customers with deep pockets. As with the current car, Mercedes is likely to offer just a single engine – the 3-litre V6 diesel in ML 350 CDI guise. A raft of updates see the engine improve in both efficiency and power which sees a bump up to 258bhp. Prices are likely to see a rise too when the car is launched in mid-2012.
Factfile:
Engine: 3-litre diesel
Power/Torque: 258bhp/63.2kgm
Kerb weight: 2175kg
L/W/H: 4804/1926/1796mm
Expected: Mid-2012

Mercedes-Benz B-Class,mercedez benz 2012 b-class model

Mercedes-Benz B-Class
The latest B-Class is an important model for India. Why? It is the first car to be launched off Mercedes-Benz’s new front-wheel- drive (MFA) platform which will form the basis of a new generation of smaller (read cheaper) Mercs. At 4.3 metres long, the B-class is part- large hatch and part-mini-MPV. Interior packaging is good, so there will be ample space inside. The dashboard borrows elements from the SLS AMG and the CLS, adding to the luxurious cabin ambience.

A 1.8-litre diesel and a new 1.6-litre turbo-petrol will power the B-class and the transmissions could include a seven-speed dual-clutch ’box. Priced from around Rs 18 lakh, the B-class will be the most affordable Merc in India. But will choosy Indian customers take to the car’s unusual body style?

Factfile:

Engines: 1.8-litre diesel, 1.6-litre turbo-petrol
Power/Torque: 135bhp/30.5kgm, 156bhp/25.5kgm
Kerb weight: 1395-1475kg
L/W/H: 4359/1786/1557mm
Expected: Late 2012

Mahindra Reva NXR,electric cars in india, mahindra electric cars

Mahindra Reva NXR
The Reva NXR seems to have become a permanent fixture on our annual new car list. We expect the car to finally hit Indian roads this year. A three-door, four-seater family hatchback, the car will be sold in two versions – the NXR City and the NXR. The cheaper NXR City that comes with a lead acid battery has a range of 80km per charge while its 80kph top speed should help it keep up with traffic. More powerful lithium ion batteries, a range of 160km per charge and a claimed top speed of 104kph makes the NXR the more practical of the two, but it will also be the more expensive variant. Trouble is where are the charging points?
Factfile:
Engine: Electric motor
Power/Torque: NA
Kerb weight: 900kg/850kg (NXR)
L/W/H: NA
Expected: Mid-2012
Price: Rs 3.5-4.5 lakh

Mahindra-Ssangyong Rexton II

Mahindra-Ssangyong Rexton II
The Rexton II will be the first SsangYong product Mahindra will launch in India. Based on the first-generation Mercedes-Benz M- class, the Rexton II uses its XXL size to camouflage a rather dated design. The cabin is neatly styled though and we hear Mahindra will offer the Rexton with a whole lot of kit too. Power is courtesy a 161bhp, 2.7-litre five-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. Permanent all-wheel drive and a high ground clearance should give it good off-road capabilities though its old-school body-on-frame chassis means on-road dynamics would be far from the best. M&M will assemble the Rexton at its Chakan plant and is likely to price the big SUV close to rivals like the Toyota Fortuner.
Factfile:
Power/Torque: 161bhp/34.7kgm
Kerb weight: 1966-2101kg
L/W/H: 4720/1870/1760mm
Expected: Late-2012
Price: Rs 19-21 lakh

Mahindra-Ssangyong Korando

Mahindra-Ssangyong Korando
The Korando will be the second SsangYong to be sold in India. While styling may not break new ground, it is quite smart to look at. Five seats mean the Korando enters the SUV segment with a disadvantage but to its credit it does boast a spacious cabin. Interior quality is far superior to all Mahindras so far, and rightfully the Korando will be positioned above M&M’s own SUV line-up. The Korando features a monocoque chassis (a first for SsangYong) but from our drive last year (January 2011), we can tell you the SUV’s dynamics are just about average. A 173bhp, 2-litre turbo-diesel will power the Korando. Pricing will be competitive with an expected base price of Rs 15 lakh when the car goes on sale in late-2012.
Factfile:
Engine: 2-litre diesel
Power/Torque: 173bhp/36.7kgm
Kerb weight: 1672-1692kg
L/W/H: 4410/1830/1675mm
Expected: Late-2012
Price: Rs 15-17 lakh

New Hyundai Elantra 2012,latest hyundai cars

New Hyundai Elantra
Remove the Hyundai badge on the grille and you’ll be convinced you’re looking at a European car. It’s this image which the Korean carmaker reckons will translate into strong sales for its stylish Civic challenger. The design is modern Hyundai with the Elantra’s smooth lines flowing into each other yet managing to lend the car an aggressive look. Again, interior styling is far from ordinary with a striking fascia that is dominated by a multimedia screen. Smart packaging means space should be as good or perhaps better than the competition. Engines should include a 147bhp, 1.8-litre petrol and a new 1.8-litre diesel. In typical Hyundai fashion, the saloon should come very well specced so the Elantra will impress on the VFM scale too.
Factfile:
Engines: 1.8-litre petrol,
1.8-litre diesel
Power/Torque:147bhp/18.2kgm,
140bhp/NA
Kerb weight: NA
L/W/H: 4530/1775/1445mm
Expected: June 2012
Price: Rs 12-15 lakh

New Honda Civic 2012

The latest Civic is out and it’s headed for an India launch in mid-2012. The design is more evolutionary than revolutionary (unlike the earlier car). In fact, the lines have been toned down which should make the saloon appeal to a wider customer base. However, the interiors are just as radical as before and feature a dual level split instrument console.
The new Civic should feature an updated version of the 1.8-litre, SOHC I-4 engine with improved refinement, emissions, economy and performance. Peak power will be around 140bhp. A diesel engine is also on the cards but is unlikely to make it to India before late-2013. Having tasted blood with its aggressive pricing for the Brio and Jazz, expect a surprise sticker price for this model too.
Factfile:
Engine: 1.8-litre petrol
Power/Torque: 140bhp/17.7kgm
Kerb weight: 1198-1254kg
L/W/H: 4503/1753/1435mm
Expected: Mid-2012
Price: Rs 14-16 lakh

Ford EcoSport latest car,new ford ecosport model

Ford EcoSport
We’ve been tracking the EcoSport for quite some time and can confirm the final few details on Ford’s exciting new mini-SUV. First and foremost is to do with the EcoSport’s length. Ford has been cagey about the EcoSport’s dimensions, but we now know for sure it will be a sub-four metre vehicle. That means the EcoSport qualifies as a small car and will avail of a lower rate of excise duty. We hear Ford is looking at a really aggressive price tag for the EcoSport so we won’t be too surprised if the base model retails for under Rs 6 lakh.

Another piece of good news is that the production model looks very similar to the concept that was first shown at the Auto Expo 2012. Its tall stance and chunky styling are pure SUV and that’s sure to be a huge draw for Indian buyers. Adding brawn to the design is the lagre trapezoidal grille, cladding on the lower front bumper and side sills and fixed spare wheel at the back. However, the large wheel arches also make the EcoSport’s 16-inch wheels look small and we expect the Indian car to get 17-inchers. As on the concept, the roof gets chrome rails and the rear side windows have the familiar Ford upwards kink in the window line.

As expected, the EcoSport will also share many cabin components with the Fiesta and the dashboard is similar in design too. There should be decent space for four occupants but boot space will be no larger than a hatchback’s. Interestingly, the EcoSport’s touch sensitive and electric operated boot release is hidden in the tail light cluster.

Like the Fiesta, the EcoSport is underpinned by Ford’s global B-platform, so excellent dynamics are almost a given on this mini-SUV. The EcoSport will also be sold with the 1.5-litre diesel engine as offered on the Fiesta but the big news is the debut of Ford’s latest 1-litre EcoBoost petrol motor. While its small displacement may suggest otherwise, the engine benefits from turbocharging and direct injection to make it just as powerful as a 1.6-litre motor while being more efficient at the same time. What remains to be seen is if Indian buyers will readily take to such a small capacity motor.

Ford thinks it has the right product for the Indian market. We’ll know when the EcoSport hits Indian roads in early 2013.

Factfile:
Engines: 1.2-litre petrol, 1.5-litre diesel
Power/Torque: NA, 88.7bhp/20.8kgm
Kerb weight: NA
L/W/H: NA
Expected: Early 2012
Price: Rs 6-7.5 lakh

Fiat Punto Evo 2012

Fiat Punto Evo
Fiat is ready with a set of cosmetic upgrades for its Punto hatchback. To be called the Punto Evo, the car will receive a new front bumper with integrated foglamps, a new front grille and slightly reworked headlights. The tail-lights will also be tweaked and there will be a redesigned rear bumper too. The European Evo features a new dashboard though it remains to be seen if the Indian car will get this. The current engine options are likely to continue though we expect a small price increment across the range.
Factfile:
Engines: 1.2 litre-petrol,  1.4 litre-petrol, 1.3-litre-diesel, 1.3-litre diesel
Power/Torque: 67bhp/9.76kgm, 89bhp/ 11.67kgm, 75bhp/20kgm, 90bhp/21.3kgm
Kerb weight: 1090-1145kg

Chevrolet Sail hatchback

Chevrolet Sail hatchback

Simply put, small cars equal big sales. And this small car has the potential to seriously put the wind in Chevrolet’s sales (pun intended)! The Sail hatchback that will be launched before the saloon looks striking whichever angle you look at it. The design looks neat and, like the saloon, its spacious interiors will be a selling point. It is likely to share the Beat’s 1.2-litre petrol engine and also get the 1.3-litre Fiat Multijet within a year of launch. Costs will be kept low thanks to the car sharing many components with the saloon. A sub-Rs 4 lakh base price would make it a very enticing option.
Factfile:
Engine: 1.2-litre petrol
Power/Torque: 79bhp/10.91kgm
Kerb weight: 1070kg
L/W/H: 3947/1690/1503mm
Expected: July 2012
Price: Rs 4-6 lakh

Chevrolet Sail Saloon

Chevrolet Sail Saloon
The Sail is Chevrolet’s weapon for a fresh assault in the midsize segment. Designed and developed in China by GM and SAIC, the Sail looks every bit a modern Chevy. The proportions are nice and styling is sharp all over. Interior space is a highlight and that should give it an edge over smaller rivals like the Maruti Swift Dzire.
Power will come courtesy a 1.4-litre petrol engine producing 102bhp, and eventually the 1.3-litre Fiat-sourced Multijet diesel. Interestingly, the Sail platform has its roots in the same Opel Corsa that was on sale in India till 2006; so the car should not be too expensive for Chevrolet to produce. Prices are likely to be affordable, ranging from Rs 6-7.5 lakh.
Factfile:
Engine: 1.4-litre petrol
Power/Torque: 102bhp/13.35kgm
Kerb weight: 1070kg
L/W/H: 4249/1690/1505mm
Expected: September 2012
Price: Rs 6-7.5 lakh

Chevrolet Enjoy (MPV)

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corporation (SAIC) that picked up a 50 percent stake in GM India last year has big plans for India. Among the products headed here is the Wuling-made CN-100 MPV. The CN-100 may not score too high on styling but its trump card will be its versatility. Likely to be sold as a seven-seater, its second and third row seats can also be folded flat or removed altogether. Powering the MPV will be a 1.4-litre petrol engine that will be joined by the Fiat-sourced 1.3 Multijet diesel in 2013. The CN-100 will be manufactured at General Motors’ Talegaon plant and will be sold under the Chevrolet brand name. With no diesel option available until 2013, GM will have to price the CN-100 very competitively to attract buyers. Don’t be surprised if this one comes with a sub-Rs 6 lakh price tag.
Factfile:
Engine: 1.4-litre petrol
Power/Torque: 102bhp/13.35kgm
Kerb weight: 1205kg
L/W/H: 4305/1680/1750mm
Expected: July 2012
Price: Rs 6 lakh
