Maruti Suzuki India Limited (MSIL) is part of a parent group, Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan. The passenger car manufacturer, earlier termed as Maruti Udyog Limited created a niche for it in India obtaining a large stake in the local car market.
Commencing its operational functions in the year 1909, the company was known as the Suzuki Loom Works. Based in Hamamatsu, Japan, the company has also established its presence all over. Maruti Udyog enters into a deal with the Suzuki Motor Corporation, in the year 1982.
Suzuki brings out to its clients, several varieties of motor bike, automotives, outboard motors, generators as well as wheel chairs that are motorised. The vehicles offered include more than 150 models spread across 14 vehicle manufacturers.
The hatchback model, Maruti 800, was launched in 1983. The 970 cc sedan, Maruti 1000 came out during 1990-1994. Other models are the Maruti Hatchback model, 993 cc Zen in 1993; the upgraded Maruti100, known as Esteem in 1995 as well as the Maruti Alto in the year 2000.

30 percent shares of the subsidiary, Maruti Suzuki Automobile India, will be obtained by Maruti. The company also reports its net profit as 1,189 crores, thus showing at the most a surge of about 39.3%.
