Ford India has launched the automatic variant of the new Fiesta. Named as new Ford Fiesta Powershift automatic, the entry level Style model is priced at Rs 8.99 lakh while the top-end Titanium trim is being offered for Rs 9.70 lakh, ex-showroom Delhi. The car mates a 6-speed dual-clutch transmission to the 1.5-litre Ti-Vct petrol engine which produces 109PS at 6045rpm and 140Nm at 4500rpm. Ford claims a fuel economy of 16.9kmpl for this automatic variant.
The PowerShift transmission features a dry-clutch setup and is a completely sealed unit. Ford says that the transmission is a maintenance-free unit which stands good for 2.4 lakh km or 10 years. The transmission also features a Hill Hold assist system which prevents the car from rolling off slopes while Grade Assist allows one to descend a slope without tapping on the brakes. In bumper to bumper traffic, there is a Creep function which allows one to move forward without having to press the accelerator. This is the first dual-clutch to be offered in this segment and will compete with the automatic variants of the Hyundai Verna, VW Vento, Skoda Rapid and the Honda City. Ford will be building the Fiesta automatic at its Maraimalai nagar plant in Chennai.
