The wait is finally over! Hindustan Motors has launched the new Mitsubishi Pajero Sport at an ex-showroom price of Rs 23.53 lakh, Delhi. The new Pajero Sport gets a 2.5-litre diesel engine which generates 178PS of power and 400Nm of maximum torque. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and Mitsubishi have provided the Pajero Sport with an on demand 4WD system as well. The Pajero Sport has a 36 degree approach angle, 25 degree departure angle and 23 degree break-over.
17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 265/65 R17 tyres is what the Sport comes with. The new Pajero Sport is offered in six different colours. On the inside, the SUV gets leather seats, an MP3 player with a slot for USB, audio display and fuel consumption information, automatic climate control system, leather wrapped steering wheel with audio controls and a gear knob wrapped in leather as well. The altimeter, barometer has been carried over from the Pajero currently available in India. The middle row passengers have to be content with manual airconditioner blowers. They however get a 60:40 split seats while the third row passengers have 50:50. Apart from this, the new Pajero Sport also gets self-levelling projector headlamps, rear parking sensors and rear wash wipe with a defogger. As far as safety is concerned, Mitsubishi have kitted the SUV with driver and passenger airbags and ABS & EBD with brake boosters.
The Mitsubishi Pajero Sport is currently available in a single variant and will be up against the likes of the new Toyota Fortuner and Hyundai Santa Fe. The Pajero currently on sale in India will be sold for another 4-5 months. Initially, the Pajero Sport will be available as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) with Completely Knocked Down (CKD) production to start from September 2012. Mitsubishi aims to sell 6000 units of the Pajero Sport this year.
