The Merc is back, in the same white shade as we had but with
super-refined petrol CGI engine this time as opposed to the E350CDI
which I had with me as my long termer earlier. The CGI has been an
engine that marks a new direction for Mercedes-Benz
and fits in perfectly with the new E, which marks a reinvention of the
class and the manner in which its maker and masses perceive it. In tune
with the aggressive and sporty new design of the car, the CGI engine is
all about technology and performance not just in terms of acceleration
and thrills, but also in the sphere of emissions and fuel efficiency.
The new E-Class remains a step in the right direction for the
manufacturer, and a newfound interest in the car in its new avatar is
proof of this very fact. While the big Merc has lost out a bit on its
comfort factor (something that our Chief Road Tester Dilip Desai points
out often) it dynamic and youthful new image is something that few can
complain about.
