Honda has stepped
into the entry level hatchback segment with the Brio(pronounced as
Br-ee-oo) and will be available in four trim versions from Rs. 3.95
lakhs to Rs. 5.10 lakhs ex-showroom Delhi.
Honda has
finally stepped in the league of the mass market buyer with the Honda
Brio starting at Rs. 3.95 lakhs and going up to Rs. 5.10 Lakhs . Powered
by the same 1.2 liter i-VTEC engine as that in the Jazz with Variable
Valve timing, however, slightly de-tuned to 88 PS to deliver a better
fuel efficiency of 18.4 kiloneters to a liter as per Central Motor
Vehicle Rules. The front and the rear suspension come with a McPherson
Strut and Torsion Beam respectively. The 175/65 section tyres are
coupled with alloys on the top-end variant, full wheel covers on the SMT
and SMT option versions and silver steel wheels with centre hub caps on
the base.
The interior is spacious and offers a number of storage spaces and
cubbie holes to fit in anything throughout the cabin. Steering mounted
controls are there on all models but the base. However, central locking
and immobilizer is standard across all variants and ABS with EBD and SRS
Airbags are on the top end and SMT option variant. Driver seat belt
reminder is standard across all versions, however, the three point ELR
with Pretensioner and Load Limiter is available only on the option SMT
and VMT versions and so does the Tilt Steering. All models get
Electronic Power Steering, front power windows, headlight off and
ignition key off reminder and average fuel consumption display.
On the occasion, Mr. Takashi Nagai, President and CEO, Honda Siel
Cars India said, "We have been able to launch the Brio at a competitive
price due to our efforts to control costs, maximise production
efficiencies and minimize impacts of currency fluctuations. And this we
have achieved through pure localization by using parts being
manufactured locally." Currently, Honda has 135 dealerships across 83
cities across the country and will go up 143 dealerships in 91 cities by
the end of the current fiscal year.
The Honda Brio comes with a two year or 40000 kilometers warranty as
standard and is available in six exciting colours. The Brio would be
competing against the Toyota Etios LIVA, The Hyundai i10, The Maruti Suzuki Ritz, Ford Figo and the Chevrolet Beat.
