Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India Pvt. Ltd. (HMSI) has inaugurated
the second phase of production at its two-wheeler plant in Tapukara,
Rajasthan. This is HMSI’s second plant in India with the first one being
in Manesar. Honda has expanded the capacity to 1.2 million units in
this plant with an investment of more than Rs 1000 crore. This plant
also has the flexibility of manufacturing both scooters and motorcycles
with the Activa, CB Twister and CB Shine rolling out of the same assembly lines.
Honda has also set up a third plant in Bangalore which is scheduled to be operational by 2013 capable of producing 1.2 million units annually. This capacity expansion plans will help Honda achieve 4 million units a year with all the three plants combined.
On the occasion, NK Rattan, vice president, sales and marketing, said, “The plant initially started the operations on July 11, 2011 with initial annual production capacity of 0.6 million units. Further to meet growing demand of customers, 2nd phase with 0.6 million units capacity is started today making the total capacity to 1.2 million. With this, we shall be able to service our customers of Activa and CB Shine in a speedier manner.”
