Bajaj
Auto and KTM are contemplating the launch of a brand new 125cc bike in
the Indian market by the year 2011. Bajaj Auto will build the bike at
its Chakan plant near Pune. It will take approximately 12 months to
launch the bike commercially in the Indian market. The new bike will be launched in the European market by the end of current calendar year.
Bajaj
has entered into an agreement with KTM where both the companies will
jointly roll out global bikes in India. The news has come out at a time
when Bajaj is gearing up to launch various bikes in India in the
125-250cc segment. The aim is to launch bikes that have potential in the
global markets. Speaking on the recent plans, Mr. Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj
Auto said "From 2012 onwards, whatever vehicle we will build would be
three generation ahead of what we have today. That means not only better
interiors but also new set of engines and transmissions as well."
Bajaj-KTM has big plans for India as it is looking forward to launch high performance bikes in the Indian markets. KTM Power Sports AG will cater to premium segment while their range of "RE" passenger vehicles will be a standalone brand in the three wheeler space.
