Tata Motors to Launch Jaguar & Land Rover in India on June 28

On 28th June, the home market of Tata takes a new turn with a mixture of luxury brands; Tata Motors unfolds its marquee brands, the Jaguar and Land Rover, in India.

The Jaguar and Land Rover will be launched just before few weeks of India's first global brand, the ultra-cheap Tata Nano, hits the road in July.

Jaguar Cars in IndiaLast year in March, the luxury vehicles were acquired from Ford Motor for $2.3 billion by Tata Motors. For the first time Jaguar and Land Rover will debut together globally.

The imported cars will first hit Mumbai and after that it will drive to Ludhiana and Bengaluru.

The five models including the XJ, XX, and XF will be rolled out by Jaguar. Land Rover will have two models available. For its latest models, Tata Motors declined to reveal the first year sales targets. They will be number a few hundreds, said a senior Tata manager.

The Jaguar four models are sold largely in United Kingdom: Estate, saloon, open-top and coupe. Land Rover brands sold in abundance overseas are the Range Rover, Defender, Discovery and Freelander.

Out of $83 billion Tata conglomerate JLR will be the first luxury cars although they had a joint venture with Mercedes nearly a decade ago. Jaguar provides a toehold to Tata Motors in India's premium car segment, while the Land Rover completes its SUV range including Tata Sumo.

Land Rover Cars in IndiaThe launch time of JLR is such that India's luxury car market has belied the downturn. In last couple of years, global brands like the Rolls Royce, BMW, Audi, Porsche, Lamborghini, Maybach and the Bentley have made India their coveted destination.

Mercedes said last year that it will invest Rs 250 crore (Rs 2.5 billion) to set up its first fully-owned production facility in India. Its first plant in Pune was leased from Tata Motors.

Now, India has its own luxury brands.
