Hyundai
is gearing up to launch its brand new SUV model- Santa Fe in the Indian
market. Although the earlier two attempts, with Terracan and Tucson
have failed, Hyundai is planning to launch the Santa Fe in its third
attempt, around Diwali. The SUV segment is the second largest growing
one in the passenger car sales.
Speaking on the purported launch, Arvind Saxena, director, marketing and sales said, "We will launch Sante Fe in October-November, ahead of the festive season. If volumes pick up, then we will consider assembling the vehicle here."
At present a significant 18-20 percent of growth comes from premium SUVs. This 7 seater SUV will be powered by a 2.2L diesel engine. The new Hyundai Santa Fe model will be imported as a CBU and will be priced between Rs. 22-24 lakh. The new Hyundai Santa Fe will compete with successful models like Honda CRV, Ford Endeavour, Chevrolet Captiva, Mitsubishi Outlander and upcoming Nissan Murano and Skoda Yeti. Hyundai has done exceptionally well in the small car segment but is yet to prove its mettle in the big car segment. The company is hopeful that the all new Santa Fe will place it in an all new growth trajectory.
